Description

This second book by James Smith is fantastic, the first one was amazing about diet, exercise etc but this one is about life and has some incredible ideas, at parts I felt I was a bit too old to take bits of advice but. With the utmost respect, to even see the people who reviewed this take it literally and stop reading his book because of it made me feel like they may have missed the point. My favourite parts of this book are the amazing quotes that are so perfectly put into place and the little tasks throughout the chapters. The book listens/reads like a Personal Trainer who has read Carol Dwecks Mindset and a few other similar titles.

He doesn’t narrate it that well, bit stilted but I do like him and imagine he’s bringing some of these concepts to a new audience. James Smith is back to challenge everything you thought you knew about the path to fulfilment and happiness. I am not disappointed in this book as I didn’t really have much expectations prior to the purchase, rather I am just educated now as to the actual level of self-deluded grandeur’s Smith has of himself. For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password.

He doesn't blow smoke up your arse and tell you what you want to hear and he doesn't feed you bullshit. The book is a cheese fest of 'perfect world' advice about always do what you want to do, live how you want to live, and reeks of a young man's thoughts on the world who has no children, no commitments and has made it good relatively quickly so has never lived in the real world. Good for perhaps a teenager or someone in their early twenties who aren’t sure on what route to take in their lives. The content too, is just awful, embarrassing almost, it makes me wonder who pushed it to publication.

Thank you, James, for unknowingly being the person spouting the words I need to hear at just the right time in life. I think we all need to take more accountability for situations we find ourselves in and stop begrudging others.

This book does make you reflect on your own life and you need to remember how important having a work life balance is. With hard-hitting home truths and a helping of tough love, be prepared to reset your outlook, redefine your goals and unlock your potential.

It came out at the right time for me personally and Not a Life a coach has absolutely nailed it’s timing too. Not a Diet Book mercilessly takes down every fad diet, workout and health drink you have been sold and instead explains [James’] mission to make understanding weight-loss as two words – calorie deficit. The book is part self development, part stories about James’s own development and part him adding definitions to words or phrases. Possibly a good gateway personal development book for someone who doesn't read non fiction but I felt there was nothing new or noted information or even memorable stories. Personal trainer James Smith’s new book, Not a Diet Book, offers frank advice on getting in shape and busts some major diet myths. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. I purchased this title based on Jame’s Instagram content, which was mostly good humoured, punchy advice about wieght loss and approaches to life, these 1-4 min videos are entertaining yet informative, I have now learned through 6.

As for the target audience, through reading the book I percieved it to be aimed towards young adult men in their early 20ies.Most of the positive psychology anecdotes have been written time and time again and by better authors. All I saw were people saying that he was talking about social media and just packing a bag and travelling. Fantastic book if you’re looking for a kick up the arse or reassurance that you should do that thing you’re scared to do. the book didn't really flow for me and I learnt nothing other than his bits life story which he touched on in the first book. I understand that some books are not for everyone and you may have stopped reading it because it's just simply not helpful or it's not your cup of tea.
