The ends are not the same (as illustrated) and the set contains all the grab rails and step irons, plus dummy coupler top blocks and operating rods for both ends and a complete brake stand and platform for one end. The paint should now be good enough (after more than 5 times redoing it) so we can start with the pillows and decoration. The gondola is completely painted in black, a colour requested by a decree of the Magistrate of the Pomp (16th century) intended to limit the excessive luxury used by the noble and rich to adorn their own boats.

The first written records of the gondola date back to the 14th century, but it is likely that they were in use for several centuries before that.
