Description

Dow's is a family-owned Port house that has been producing traditional-style Port for more than 200 years, despite war, disease and economic turbulence. The Dow 1980 has a very complex palate, maturity, red currants and black cherries, herbs and smoked meats, in the middle acidity and tannin (still! This vintage Port is made from a blend of traditional Port grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca. Nowhere has this investment been more in evidence than in the quality of Dow’s Late Bottled Vintage Ports (LBV).

Dow's Ports are made at two of the most famous Quintas in the Douro: Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira. The wines of the bountiful 1985 vintage have a great balance of power with sweetness and are drinking now.

Dow's Quinta do Bomfirm Vintage Port is a magnificent and complex fortified wine that has been produced exclusively from the finest grapes grown in the company's vineyard located in the heart of Portugal's Douro Valley. Over the last twenty five years the work done in the Dow’s vineyards and in the Dow’s wineries has resulted in constant improvement to the quality of all the house's premium Ports. On average only two or three times every ten years are the weather conditions sufficiently good to allow for the making of Dow’s Vintage Port.

All of the property is A-rated, and virtually the entire Quinta is now planted in varietal blocks, allowing each variety to be picked and vinified separately. When young, Dow’s Vintage Ports are purple-black, austere, complex and intensely concentrated, full-bodied and balanced with very fine peppery tannins. Port and cheese night taken to a new level with this beauty… Great legs, complex aromas of jam, figs, cherries and blackberry, raisin and chocolate…. This wine is made from grapes grown in the Quinta do Bomfim vineyard, which is located in the heart of the Douro Valley, one of the most famous wine regions in the world. Light ruby with a garnet edge, a rich coffee and chocolate nose, medium-bodied, with lovely balanced fruit and coffee flavours and a long, silky finish. The old vines first planted by Maurice, John and Ron Symington in the mid 1920’s bring a fabulous complexity to the Port wines made at Bomfim.
