Revisiting it now in CD form, the album still impresses and ranks, alongside Brothers in Arms, as Dire Straits finest achievement. DISC TWO, brings the story up to July 1981, when Dire Straits played at the Festival Park in Werchter, Belgium, while still touring and promoting their third record, the extraordinary Making Movies, released the previous October.

The fact is, as I talk about this box set Dire Straits are back in the UK album charts because of this CD Box Set. The uncluttered production by 'Muff' Winwood allows Knopfler's melodic guitar and laid-back vocals to cut through clearly. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. There is a degree of variation between the tracks, some sound as if they have far more depth and richness.

It took me a lot of years to dive into the back catalogue of Dire Straits and I have to admit, I have missed out on a lot of great music.Erlewine praised Knopfler's "spare, tasteful guitar lines and his husky warbling" and his "inclination toward Dylanesque imagery, which enhances the smoky, low-key atmosphere of the album". This CD also has a fold-out sheet with a picture of the band and on the other side more pictures of the band. Then we have Love Over Gold another one of my favourites actually with a foldout sheet with the lyrics on.

The Encores recordings are untouched and the Bob Ludwig 2021 remasters (from the Black Friday reissue) were used. Sultans of Swing', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Private Investigations' and three of the five singles from 'Brothers in Arms' all feature and this special vinyl edition also has 'Telegraph Road (Live Remix)' which in the past was only issued on CD.

Luckily, I had help from the archive team at Universal and British Grove engineer Luie Stylianou, who was happy to do most of the assembly and syncing. The first single released was " Sultans of Swing" which first broke into the United States top five early in the spring of 1979, becoming a hit a full five months after the album was released there, and then reached number eight in the UK Singles Chart. This first leg took the band around Great Britain in June and July 1978, performing in England, Scotland and Wales. The original album has a nice clean sound with a kind of warmth that makes the music feel down to Earth.

The band's sound was characterized by Mark Knopfler's intricate guitar solos and storytelling lyrics.DISC ONE of the set features an early show from the group, recorded for FM Radio Broadcast at The Old Waldorf, in San Francisco, on 31st March 1979, shortly before the release of their second album Communique.
