The most famous thing about my version of Jason Todd is that fans voted to kill him off, like Andy Kaufman getting voted off SNL by phone. Jason Todd is my favourite Robin, and while I love some of the stories that have been told about him after his death/resurrection, these original Jason-Robin stories get to the heart of the character. The last three stories are where the creative team of Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo take over and it’s clear why they were given the reigns. report information) Pencils Jim Aparo; Jim Starlin; Dave Cockrum Inks Mike DeCarlo; Jim Starlin; Don Heck Colors ?

When Marvel Comics wished to use the name of Captain Marvel for a new, different character,[citation needed] Starlin was given the rare opportunity to produce a one-shot story in which to kill off a main character.Though many know how he died with the story Death in the Family being in print for many years, the stories of how he became so unpopular that fans voted him to his death are less widely read. Once I learned about the editorial and artist difficulties on the rest of your run from you years ago, it helped me appreciate them in that there really ARE good stories in there trying to get out from under all those problems.

then we jump into the 'new' origin, where we see Dick Grayson's time as Robin end, and open the door for Jason.Sadly, Issue 414 was interesting, but apparently isn't resolved until issue 421, 422, which aren't easily available. Together, Batman and Robin have kept the streets of Gotham City safe-while the boy beneath the mask, Dick Grayson, has kept Bruce Wayne from a lonely life of brooding darkness.

It was nice to compare how emotions can both hinder and help, and even more intriguing to contemplate the balance that needs to be struck in Bruce Wayne/Batman's life. In the late 1980s, Starlin began working more for DC Comics, writing a number of Batman stories, including the four-issue miniseries Batman: The Cult (Aug.Jason Todd was replacing Dick Grayson, whose role on the 1960s Batman TV series made the young ward a household name. Here he developed his ideas of God, death, and infinity, free of the restrictions of mainstream comics publishers' self-censorship arm, the Comics Code Authority. That’s kind of the problem with this collection as it is more interesting to see what went wrong with the Jason Todd character and seeing the awkward transition from the Bronze Age into the modern one than the quality of the stories themselves. But when a bullet fired from the Jokers gun nearly clips Robins wings for good, their partnership is severed, and Batman resumes his war on crime alone. The Dark Knight sees Jason's potential to be a hero-as well as the rage and revenge that torment him.
