This is the better of the two Ferguson books and the one which is a real autobiography and will tell you things you didn't necessarily know, about his background growing up, playing career and so on. Over more than twenty-five years, he presided over seismic changes at Manchester United with the only constant being his steady hand that consistently won the club titles. I had browsed Alex Ferguson's latest autobiog in Waterstones over Christmas, but think this is a much better written book with more details about his early career in Scotland as a player and then manager.

Nice and clean pages as new with a small mark on the outer edges, two pencil marks impressions on the edge of the first blank page of the book, very small tear on the edge of page 345. The chapter headings suggest a highlights package of the rows, controversies and personality clashes of the Premier League era. This is an autobiography of Sir Alex Ferguson, widely regarded as the best soccer manager in England, and the world.Sir Alex Ferguson autobiography overview: Tackling rival managers, the England job – and how Gerrard and Lampard 'are not top, top players' ". Was the criticism really necessary, especially since Beckham in particular has made efforts to mend damaged relationships since his departure from the club in 2003?

Sir Alex tells his readers of how he maintained an iron grip on the dressing room, combined with a relentless hunger for success, and how he managed to remain unchallenged in English football for much of his tenure. A break from my usual reading fayre, reading the first autobiography of the most successful manager of the modern football era, which was fascinating in many ways, if a little too drawn up by the last 100 pages or so.However, not really a problem since the new book perfectly fits after this one and finishes the story of one of the greatest people in football of all time.

Many forget that SAF was also manager of Scotland at Mexico '86 following the passing of Jock Stein after Scotland's final world cup qualfier against Wales, and the account of his experiences serving as assistant manager to 'Big Jock' cannot but touch even his greatest detractors. Maybe there would be some interesting childhood tales etc, turns out a football manager played alot of football in their younger years. If you are looking for Ferguson's views regarding certain players he managed or managers he faced then this book would be worthwhile. Alex Ferguson is an entertaining, celebratory, inspiring, and revealing autobiography of arguably the best football manager in British football.

He was knighted in 1999, following Manchester United's remarkable Treble campaign, and his overall haul of 49 trophies makes him the most successful British manager of all time.

In a community that relies heavily on a single industry, there is an intensity of shared experience that draws people together and tends to make them appreciate the need to support one another. SAF is Manchester United personified, yet as he often admits in his bio, his achievements would never have been possible without the patience and belief extended to him by the Man United board (that also caused him no end of trouble). It is not much of a page turner, more of a historical book that, if you like soccer, feel obliged to read.
