The native species are growing curious about their new neighbors, and that curiosity has Commander Marshall very afraid.

One of the most impressive things about genre fiction is its ability to surprise and entertain regardless of how long we’ve been reading it. What follows in a wildly entertaining, hilarious, action-packed story about a man and himself trying to keep it together while keeping a huge secret in a very small place. A wildly entertaining mix of action and big ideas peppered with humor and a bizarre love story, this novel is proof that, when done right, science fiction can be one of the most entertaining genres out there. I was fortunate enough to receive an arc of this book from Rebellion Publishing, and I only requested it because I love the arc cover, and I am trying to read more Sci-Fi. Mickey es un personaje muy fuerte; más un antihéroe que uno tradicional, pero con una racha de bondad en él que se hace más evidente a medida que avanza la historia. There is an enjoyable cast of side characters and Mickey himself has that everyman quality you can really relate to and admire in his narrative voice. The Wall Street Journal "Sci-fi readers will be drawn in by the inventive premise and stick around for the plucky narrator. Deadline recently reported that Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon Ho ("Snowpiercer," "Parasite") has signed on to the Warner Bros. I also blew through this book in two sittings after having a hard time getting into a host of other books, so extra points for that!

My ocular wastes a long five seconds hunting for stray visible-spectrum photons before finally giving up and flipping over to infrared. It’s a hip, fresh and fun space adventure with just the right balance of action, science and humorous touches. Ninguno de los dos está dispuesto a saltar a la recicladora, pero si alguien descubre que existen múltiples Mickeys ambos serán sacrificados… y Mickey9 nunca verá la luz. One of the paradoxes present in my life is that I love sci-fi yet dislike so many sci-fi movies I’ve seen lately. This particular colony ship has religious nuts on it, however, and as is always the way with those sort of people, they've decided their imaginary friend doesn't like. However, these previous stories were bittersweet to read as they were all a lot more interesting than what was happening in our story, which amounted to, “I’m going to nap for a while, then I want to come out and get some food. Woven throughout are moments of introspection focusing on being human, which was an enlightening addition to the story. Even though there can always be a new Mickey, we see the issues with the current Mickey fighting his innate survival instinct. Billed as "The Martian" meets "Multiplicity" (with a touch of Duncan Jones' "Moon"), "Mickey7" introduces readers to an Expendable human worker drone named Mickey who is tasked with carrying out dangerous tasks on the frozen world of Niflheim.

He goes out on dangerous missions – usually to suss out whether giant worm-like “creepers” are threatening the base – to die. Moonfall, Tenet, The Tomorrow War, Dune, Reminiscence, The Adam Project, Interstellar, Infinite, Life, Blade Runner 2049. Unfortunately, Expendables are assigned to the most dangerous duties and, when they inevitably die, they are replaced with exact replicas. Sure, there are openings available on the space flight to Niflheim but Mickey isn't qualified for most of them. These Expendables are used in dangerous, high risk situations to help fix or test things out because if death occurs, they can replace them using their bio-printed body and personality.

The living expendable uploads their data as often as possible, a full map of their mind – memory, hopes, dreams, attachments.

Now, the only reason this isn't a 5-star read for me is because there were a couple of chapters in the middle that dragged a little but other than that I loved every minute of this. The cycler is extremely efficient at converting anything fed into it back into its base nutrients – a perfect recycling machine. If his superiors get wind there are duplicates running around they will both be thrown into the recycler for protein. Since neither one’s to die and they’re sure one of them will eventually get killed anyway, they decide to split their calorie allowance and keep the whole thing a secret, but doing so in a small base in the middle of a frozen planet where barely 200 people live, and while dating someone, is easier said than done.I tend to like the books I've read that involve clones, and I thought it would be interesting to read about Mickey7 and Mickey8 trying to keep the fact that there are two of them a secret. The tone I wanted to strike with it was as if you were sitting at a bar and Mickey is telling you this story. The thing they don’t want, though, the thing no one really wants, including Mickey himself, are two Mickeys, and yet, following a mission snafu, that’s exactly what occurs. Check out when to expect the latest Marvel , Star Wars, and Star Trek releases, what’s next for the DC Universe on film and TV , and everything you need to know about James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water .
