Now, in this new edition of the original classic, Michael Walsh has culled the ruch resources of earlier editions to accentuate the more modern and best-documented saints. Butler's Lives of the Saints is written in a very direct manner, and the words allow the great expanse of God to accompany you as you live and strive to be like one of these plain heroes.

From a purely entertainment perspective, which certainly isn't how this book is meant to be read, it always strikes me a little funny when it brushes over what would be the more exciting details in someone's biography--I know these aren't the point of hagiography, especially when each saint is described so briefly, but it still comes across amusing to me. Clear Creek became an abbey in 2010 and counts 55 monks, who devote themselves to God alone in the hidden life, in silence and solitude, in constant prayer and willing penance. Butler's great work, The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs and Other Principal Saints ("Butler's Lives"), the result of thirty years study, was first published in four volumes in London, 1756–1759. I highly recommend using Lives of the Saints as part of a daily regimen to deepen one's faith by way of being introduced to inspiring examples of faith. A timeless classic every Christian can appreciate, this volume has been hailed as the authority on Christian saints for more than two centuries. The bottom line here is that this work is a must for Catholics who want to deepen their devotion to the saints. This is hardly Butler's work at all - this text has been raped clean of all the author's intent, and is filled with sophistries and outright lies. This amazing set of literature gives light to the lovely life of faith that has been paved by amazing men and women such as Alban and the countless others just like him!In the original book, the footnotes were printed in such a small, closely-set typeface, that they were almost unreadable.
