About this deal

Simon Bartram has illustrated four children's books, including PUMPKIN MOON, about which PUBLISHERS WEEKLY said, "Bartram reinvents David Weisner's TUESDAY with grimacing jack-o-lanterns and a hellfire orange gleam. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I felt it both related to ordinary life (here on Earth) and yet provided some imaginative ideas about a place so far away and only seen (generally) at night. This excellent picture book has enough depth to captivate pupils and is an entertaining storytime choice for Year 1 and 2.

And Bob manages all of this whilst apparently blissfully unaware of some rather huge and important information! He never notices the short green guys who watch from a distance, steal a cupcake from his picnic lunch and crowd into a wordless spread to mug for readers. T found the aliens particularly funny, especially when they were hiding in plain sight as Bob went about his business! Grandma has just mailed a copy to a young cousin in Western Australia, so hopefully Bob and his aliens (what aliens? Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. The pictures had some striking beauty with their painting like character and they had real humour too and the story seemed OK. He exchanges his tweedy threads for a form-fitting white jumpsuit with a crescent moon on the chest, then boards a squat rocket for the moon. As the story progresses, the humorous narrative tells the reader that of course there are no aliens and that Bob is a Moon expert, but the illustrations clearly show aliens on each page - stealing his cake, hiding in a crater, in the bath tub.

I've managed to get two weeks worth of work out of this one book alone and barely scratched the surface! You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!Having completed his daily crossword on the way, one of his first jobs is to clean up the mess he believes astronauts have created. Simon Bartram (author and illustrator) fully engages an audience of any age, you will never tire of reading this story. With its bold, quirky illustrations and charming story of a lunar caretaker, Simon Bartram’s Man on the Moon series has become a modern picture book classic. Squeezing in one more, this time a space-going hero that we have loved right from the very start of this blog. Personally, I loved the adult humour - the fact it only takes Bob 15 minutes to get to work on the Moon - and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this to my children; it has become a firm favourite at bedtime.

Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Since then, it's been a hilarious staple of night time reading, day time reading, Daddy reading to himself, and just general conversation between our children and ourselves. Templar) ‘Every morning Bob rises at six o’clock… has a cup of tea and two eggs for breakfast before leaving for the rocket launch pad. Kids will laugh along at this strikingly illustrated tongue-in-cheek tale that comes with 19 space stickers. Bob is a wonderful character and the story itself is simplistic enough to engage any child from three years upwards.

Simon Bartram says, "I wrote the book after I read reports in the newspaper that soon civilians would be taking trips to the moon. Charlotte has always loved the running gag that Bob lives in firm denial of the existence of aliens (despite actually owning an alien dog, and coming into close contact with aliens pretty much every single time he dons a spacesuit). Each day, a lanky bachelor named Bob leaves his red-brick townhouse and bicycles to a hilltop launch pad. The small-size aliens were fine and we could count them or just notice them around on different pages.

well, that is something that makes my little daughter laugh all the time and urge me to read the book over and over again. Absolutely my favourite book to read to children, one of their favourites to listen to (though Daddy insisting on reading it never goes down well. looks at a day in the life of Bob and what he gets up to on the moon: cleaning and tidying, welcoming vistors, performing tricks for tourists and much more.Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!
