While many likely won’t have the context of the original, Lambert again elevates it into a lively blues-rock territory. His queerness is present, from the subtle pronoun shift he sneaks into “Chandelier” to his masterful cover of “Mad About the Boy,” his own proud contribution to a tradition of decidedly gay interpretations of the Noel Coward song. This genre-spanning collection of reimagined covers takes some of Adam’s favourite songs by artists like Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, Bonnie Tyler, Sia, Duran Duran and Kings Of Leon to a different dimension thanks to the classic ‘Adam Lambert’ treatment. The all-fabulous star takes the liberties he should, like when inserting mind-hijacking dance beats to songs such as "Sex On Fire.

The other impressive moments for me are his takes on Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" and the Noël Coward classic (most known by Dinah Washington), "Mad About the Boy. An insightful look into Lambert's taste and influences as an artist, the collection covers a wide array of tracks, from Lana Del Rey's "West Coast" and Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" to the jazz standard, "Mad About The Boy" and Ann Peebles' "I Can't Stand The Rain. Lambert: The source material was obviously important because I wanted songs that had great melodies and had lyrical content that I could relate to or apply my own experiences to.Portrayed by young actor Phoenix Notary in a chimp suit, and with some effects assistance, Spanky has plenty to do in this story, though he looks barely credible most of the time. Previously, Mike produced KSRO’s “The Drive with Steve Jaxon” drive-time radio show since 2008, covering news, music, pop culture, politics and more.

Notwithstanding the Queen-like a capella intro, he not only captures the poignant intimacy and stark vulnerability in Eilish’s lyrics, but takes it a step further.

I just think that it's a beautiful metaphor for life and the challenges that we are dealt and how we deal with those things. The diverse collection of songs span from classics like Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand The Rain” and Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out For A Hero,” to modern hits such as Billie Eilish’s “Getting Older” which gets a glam-inspired transformation, and a rock-leaning rendition of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast,” with each song showcasing Lambert’s unmatched vocal talent. It's actually easier for him than it was for Sylvester, although the lack of strain slightly detracts from the drama for me. Baltin: Were there things about some of these songs that pleasantly surprised you when you got into singing them?

OFFENBURG, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 25: Adam Lambert performs on stage during the Giovanni Zarrella Show .Ordinary World" goes back to the well of his "Mad World" breakthrough on American Idol, finding the deeper pathos in the brittle songwriting of the 80s.
