The words rush out of me, outrunning countless Miami echoes and Cuban roots, and everything I packed in my bag for this cold, foreign place. She’s a very skilled baker, having been taught from a very early age by her grandmother – it was their ‘thing’.

Because not only did my most beloved abuelita die, but within two months of her death, my best friend abandoned me, and my boyfriend of three years dumped me right before prom. Climbing ivy twists from the portico, traveling around the three-story inn with avenues of green veins. I just loved her so much and found myself relating to her and her struggles every now and then, which made this read even more of a hit, for me. I'm wearing his sweater and it's okay and a new kind of good that I'm starting to wear his city, too. However, its been important for me to take time time for my mental health, but having read this book back in September I just could not leave this review in the drafts and taking time to reflect on this book made it more impactful for me the more I thought about a major theme and idea surrounding Lila’s story: healing.

At the beginning of the book, her grandma died, her boyfriend broke up with her and she had a falling out with her best friend. It is believable that part of her shock in managing her sequential losses is her inability to handle events in life she can’t bend to her will. I loved a lot about this book, but I also had too high of expectations, which seems to be a recent issue.

A Cuban Girl’s Guide To Tea and Tomorrow has a lovely place for romance and… damn if it wasn’t perfectly paced. Lila and Orion – Our girl Lila is a headstrong, goal-oriented, and very passionate when it comes to baking and preserving her abuelita’s legacy.Lila’s grief was really well written and her struggles were often a bit dramatic but Lila is 17 and things that happen at that age, feel dramatic. Not even Señora Cabral, who still hobbles into my family’s bakery every Monday and was tan vieja before my parents were even born, is this old. Namey’s deal was brokered by Natascha Morris at The Tobias Literary Agency and Andrew Deane at Industry Entertainment. Lila is not the easiest of characters in the beginning – she’s grieving a lot but she’s also angry and resentful that she’s been sent away.
