That too has been quietly fixed with this release, the far left of the screen previously that showed part of the set now shifted and removed…another Arrow quiet admission to a framing issue that for years they denied ever was? And yet, the film doesn’t just take big swings, it takes massive ones and there’s still enough of that original vision here to be applauded. He expertly walks the line being a terrifying monster whilst delivering cutting one liners with confidence and not damaging the brand or heritage in the process. Flesh is a Trap* (HD; 18:19) offers an almost metaphysical analysis of Barker's oeuvre by Guy Adams. It looks much more film-like, is even and banishes the slightly splotchy rendering it had on the previous 1080p releases…and has the knock-on effect of rendering fine detail with that extra little bit of clarity.

There were always a lot of filtered shots used across the three films – more so in the second film – that meant this sharpness is not uniform, but neither should it, this softness inherent to the source material and at least here there’s been no attempts to try and balance this across the picture. Justin has been with Digital Spy since 2010, and in that time, has covered countless major news events for DS from the US. Until here, sex in horror films was either criminal or punishable, yet suddenly it became something else…something far greater, better, worse, something impressionable young minds were blown by…literally. Narrative contrivances abound, but with Julia bursting forth from her bloodbound prison, all begins to be forgiven.simply baffles rather than intrigues – the power of those visions that seemed spewed from…not even hell but somewhere else, somewhere we hadn’t, couldn’t even have thought of, remains. Hedonist Frank Cotton ( Sean Chapman) thinks he has reached the limits of earthly pleasure, but a mysterious puzzle box will take him further than he can possibly imagine, opening the doors to a dominion where pain and pleasure are indivisible and summoning the Cenobites, whose experiments in the higher reaches of experience will tear Frank’s soul apart. Yes, horror, but at its heart is a story of love, longing, obsession, lust and the abject boredom and the familiarity of marriage.
