About this deal

This is a reference book on the TV series Hannay, starring Robert Powell, which ran for 13 episodes 1988-89. With accompaniment from Christine Crowshaw on piano and Clive Conway on flute, it examines the era that saw the rise of the Flapper girl, jazz and the cocktail party. When an East-End gang demand protection money for Sal Alford's music-hall, she turns to Richard Hannay for help. When the young threw off the conventions of the previous generation, freedom was in the air, and the winds of change were blowing.

Hopefully, Covid restrictions permitting, Robert will be back in action with CCP in October and November when alongside fellow actor Liz he will be presenting a centennial celebration of The Roaring Twenties. What lets them down are the rather dull scripts which, unfortunately are not based on Buchan's other Hannay stories. When Hannay is entrusted with the safe-keeping of a dozen diamonds, he little knows the danger and distress they will bring. The goods and services will be collected by us within 28 days of our receiving your cancellation notice and we will charge the cost of collecting the goods or services, and will deduct this from any sum owed by us to you.The 13 fifty-minute episodes on the well presented four DVD boxed set are Season 1: episode 1: The Fellowship of the Black Stone [First shown 6 January 1988], 2: A Point of Honour, 3: Voyage into fear, 4: Death with Due Notice, 5: Act of riot, 6: The Hazard of the Die.

I have heard rumours of a new version of '39 Steps' and would be interested to see who is cast as Hannay. If you’re going to put Robert Powell in an adventure series then you expect him to go totally over-the-top.Not too many of the stories are straightforward espionage tales, and settings range from the Highlands to the "hellish" fens to an Orient Express type train. Richard Hannay is a man of his times: an Edwardian gentleman and adventurer, a mining engineer from South Africa of Scottish origin, who lives by his own standards and wits, upholding a moral code which is distinctly his own.
