About this deal

With an astounding global sales figure of over 250 million copies, this franchise has solidified its place as a cultural phenomenon and an essential cornerstone of contemporary music consumption. The Now Yearbook series also releases a vinyl selection of its primary release, with an Extra round-up vinyl boxset featuring tracks from the CD-only series, released at the end of 2022.

The presentation of each release has evolved notably over time: from 1986 through to 2013, all double and triple CD sets were released in chubby Jewel cases which could hold up to 6 discs. Due to the higher cost of pressing vinyl and the limited time they are available, they are at least three times more expensive than their compact disc counterparts. Simply Red and Nu Shooz appear in longer album versions than the radio edits that originally appeared. first reissued 2009 for the 25th anniversary, then again 20 July 2018 to coincide with Now 100) re-issued on 2CD (gatefold in 2009, jewel case in 2018), audio cassette, and a 2LP vinyl release. The series is then moved forward again, with the release of Now Yearbook 1992 in July 2023 (an Extra followed in August). According to our music teacher at the time, they had compiled the album and had all the sleeves and inlay cards pressed, when Queen stepped forward and said: “Hang on! Each release is issued as a limited edition mini-hardback book, with the CDs in sleeves forming the pages of the ' yearbook' which contains an introductory overview of the year, original 7" single artwork, trivia, chart positions and a quiz. One of them starts the second side – Chris De Burgh’s Lady In Red – which was still climbing the charts as the sleeve went to press. This effectively meant that Now 7 had the pick of about 22 or 23 weeks’ worth of chart hits; a nice wide net to fish from but this inevitably resulted in some major omissions.

Originally, the series captured extended 12" mixes of dance hits of the time, but from 1991 onwards, all Now Dance compilations featured 7" edits with only occasional extended versions or mixes included.Have only ever owned Now 7 on cassette and not vinyl so I’d be curious to find out, whilst the inlay doesn’t make any reference to the Queen track, does the label? Various tracks are the album versions, instead of the original single mixes and some songs are omitted completely. By the autumn of 1986 the record companies were gradually coming around to considering compact discs as a optional format for various artists compilations.

PS – I think it was short-sighted of EMI and Virgin to delay releasing CD versions [the Now 4 experiment notwithstanding]. In terms of the sleeve, the words "32 Top Chart Hits" have been removed for obvious reasons, but also UB40 are also absent from the front cover despite their song still being on the album. Condition - This item is in Excellent condition or better (unless it says otherwise in the above description).track was a good coup for the compilers given that Freedom, Careless Whisper and I’m Your Man featured on the Hits series. while on 1986’s Now 7 we got treated to the Alternative 7” of Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money). Language - Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description. You will notice the sticker on the front sleeve stating that there’s a bonus track contained therein.

Each album is meticulously curated to encompass a dynamic blend of chart-topping hits and hidden gems, offering listeners a diverse musical experience. UK series, comprising: compact discs (CD), magnetic audio cassettes (AC), vinyl ( LP), VHS tape, DVD, and on other short-lived formats. The percussive Bucks Fizz, followed by the slow crescendo that is the A-ha number, all topped off nicely with The Simply Red jewel. I don't have a super expensive hifi system or claim to have perfect hearing but I find this CD seems to sound sharper (glassier) than the LP I have. Component parts came into the studio in large numbers so it was always chaos in Abbey Road with packages of master tapes arriving the whole time so not everything always went exactly to plan.
