Note the screws are 6mm diameter, check the holes in your fitting can accommodate the screw size, you may need to gently open up the bracket hole with a 6mm metal drill to ensure a good fit. Each wall plug has enough depth to fill the gap between plasterboard and wall to transfer the load to the brick wall behind for a safe and secure hold.

The commonly used rawl plug and screw is a classic example, but for a more secure and safe fixing the Corefix solution is hard to beat. As written it is not appropriate for heavy loads on dot-and-dab walls, and with respect to them taking the effort to post and meaning well with it I suspect they haven't actually implemented the method all that often in practice.

Rails seem very sturdy with no wobble which I had on a previous rail fitted with normal plugs and screws.

Most traditional fasteners used for dot and dab walls impart a point loading on the plasterboard, which, when the screw is tightened, crushes the plasterboard into the void, potentially damaging the wall finish and visually distorting the wall. Corefix products that are not only highly competitive but use quality materials that have been rigorously tested in 'live' construction situations before market release. Corefix is ideal for use with a range of solid wall constructions, including blockwork, brick, stone and concrete. The plug itself is very wide - the hole is drilled with a 10 mm bit so if you’re hanging something with a small bracket it may show around the edges. In this case I’m putting an ikea metod rail on the wall for some reduced depth tall pantry units so would quite like a strong wall fixing to avert kids climbing/tipping concerns. To install, drill a 10mm hole with a masonry or SDS bit to the depth of your red or blue Corefix plug, tap this home until the flange touches the plasterboard, tap home the engineered steel core until this is flush with the flange of the plug, offer up the bracket/fixture and screw home until tight. All Corefix fixings have high load ratings and performance and are suitable for use in all types of brick and block, including lightweight/aircrete blocks. Measure out and mark your holes, carefully drill through the the plaster with an 8mm pointed wood drill (this is sacrificial and will wear down over time).

Corefix has been independently tested to 100kg safe working load and in our own internal tests has safely held a whopping 250kg. I’d be very interested to hear how you get on with the blue AIR ones if you wouldn’t mind updating once you’re done? Corefix has been independently tested for both sheer and tensile strength in all brick and blockwork substrates. Cobra wall anchors are the leading manufacturer of wall fixings in North America and Canada and are exclusively distributed in the UK by Metex. Living in a new-ish house with dot and dab exterior walls, fitting anything heaver than a picture to the wall has always been a real bind. The plugs, while cleverly designed, are made of a very cheap material and the screw will strip it if tightened with anything other than a hand screwdriver. fair enough and point taken, but a lot does depend on the quality of the plasterboard and the general construction of the build. Steel core for heavy duty use: Designed for heavy-duty use, these plasterboard over blockwork wall fixings include a steel core for reinforcement to provide a solid, reliable hold. Corefix 120 (yellow) has a longer 120mm screw for securing fixtures of up to 30mm deep (eg wooden battens).

The steel core in this plasterboard fixing transfers the load from the board to the solid blockwork or masonry material behind and whilst other frame fixings claim to perform the same role these can severely distort and bow the plasterboard. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. They are fitted like a standard brick wall fixing, but the metal bridge piece solves the dot and dab problem. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.IF the wall plug and screw jam and don't go in to the depth where the wall plug drives through into the brick solid/something where you can drive the screw till the depth required, undo the screw get a drift the same size as the hole (remove the drill use the other end of it?
