You can use a variety of wood surfaces: plain piece of wood, a wood slice, or a piece that looks like a pallet (this technique works on canvas too! I was able to remove all the paper from this large 12×16 inch wood pallet in about 45 minutes, which is just one episode of whatever show I happen to be binge watching. I’ve never do it before and thought that the photo transfer would be good but now it looks like a lot of work and i need something easy as i have to little kids running around.

Please contact me if you would like to borrow any media (photos, video or audio files), tutorials, or ideas from this blog. Chances are you’ve seen tutorials that show you how to use Mod Podge to transfer a photo onto wood before. The paper is rubbed off carefully afterwards and it's quicker and easier to do this with thin paper. This is a technique I teach with my photography students which can instantly transform a photo into a work of art. If you would like to see the process in a bit more detail then please have a look at the video link above in which I demonstrate this build step by step.

And I’ve had a breakthrough when it comes to the mod podge photo transfer that makes it faster, easier, and just about foolproof! They are quicker than Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium because you don’t have to wait 24 hours for the medium to dry. If your image has words on it, create a reversed photocopy so that the text will read correctly on your final project. As one of the first companies, we already had an Internet presence in 1999 with our broad selection of individually designable stamps and accessories. Smooth out any bubbles in the glue using a squeegee and clean up any of the medium that extends beyond the paper. Not pictured is regular Mod Podge in matte finish, a sanding block, sponge and dark wax (I used Miss Mustard Seed’s). As a final step once all the paper fibers are removed, paint a thin coat of mod podge over the entire image and allow it to dry. Use a (broad) brush or a foam brush to apply the medium to the front of the image until the image is no longer or barely visible. I use a foam brush to apply the transfer medium over the top of the photo until the image is obscured completely – meaning, I can’t see any of the photo.

Start by creating a photocopy of your picture using a dry toner powdered copier and cut the image to size. Royal Mail and Parcel Force aim to deliver the next morning but deliveries to certain postcode areas may take longer. Just pay attention to what you are doing, though, because I cannot guarantee none of the ink will come off if you are rubbing really hard. It’s also one of the formulas that I get the most questions about, so I thought I’d share some tips about using this medium to do a photo transfer with you. When dry, flip the image over and apply a wet a sponge to moisten the paper on the back of the image.

The adherence to all the surfaces indicated (glass, ceramic, metal, fabric) was excellent and did not require any additional medium to attach. Also you must have your alignment exact here as you will not be able to change it once you stick down. Royal Mail aim to deliver the next working day but deliveries to certain postcode areas may take longer. Belt Sander - a good belt or orbital sander is essential when working with a rough material like pallet wood.

My preferred products for mixed media photo transfer are initially white but dry clear, and allow me to layer to my heart’s content. A reminder that your image will appear reversed once you transfer it, if the image has text or has essential features, be sure to mirror image before printing. Also, lay a sheet of wax paper inside the pillow cover so that the back of the pillow cover is protected. The most important thing is to make sure the surface you want to put the image on is perfectly flat. But letting it dry for a full 72 hours makes the ink transfer fairly permanent and so you can get all the paper fibers off more quickly. Simply brush the magical medium onto the copy, apply to project surface and when dry rub paper to reveal the image. Once again the Mod Podge Photo Transfer medium was comparatively very labor intensive but I didn’t see any clear advantages.
