Description

I was really pleased to win one of the books (although, of course, I had to leave it behind when I left). He was tested recently to ascertain his reading age and at 8y6m his results came out at 10y6m so ORT obviously did something good!

i read janet and john at school but my real passion was for enid blyton - i loved everything she wrote!I started school in 1979 and learnt to read using these books and my Mum still has two copies, which my son (now 8) also read when he started school. The books became a familiar aid for teaching schoolchildren throughout the 1950s and 1960s, being used in 81% of British primary schools in 1968. I found an old book my sister or brother had had in school, but I don't think there were any characters in it. Before I was reading for myself, I remember vividly that my brother 10 years older than me would read TV Comic to me; Tom and Jerry and Basil Brush stand out most. I learned about Jerry and Jane in the dark blue books with the orange trim, Highroads to Reading series.Originally published in the UK by James Nisbet and Co in 1949 the Janet and John reading scheme was one of the first to use the “look and say” approach. For example, Etsy prohibits members from using their accounts while in certain geographic locations. Library copy, 'class 3' in ink to top edge of front cover, ink stamp to top of title page, clear tape to spine, no scribbles.
