He’s not keen on the idea, but learns from the other gladiators that to refuse means he’ll get a “squidging” – which doesn’t sound very pleasant at all. Each of the adventures themselves is sufficiently different from the others to make it enjoyable to read one after another - parents won't get bored at all. Fortunately, Mr Benn and his friends come up with an ingenious plan to save all the gladiators and give the Emperor a taste of his own medicine. The people may be simply drawn, but they have a great deal of character - even the ever-changing Mr Benn.

Finding himself on a road in the process of being built, Mr Benn sees the Emperor pass by in his chariot who demands that Mr Benn be taken to the Arena to fight. Mr Benn comes up with an audacious plan and soon the prison is transformed into a place full of all colours of the rainbow. It introduces the friendly bowler-hatted character who inspired the legendary TV series which made Mr Benn a household name. Benn was published in 1970 ( ISBN 0-234-77361-8) and tells the story of Mr Benn as a convict (hence the number) inspiring his jail-mates to brighten up their cells.

The Mr Benn books were originally reissued by The Tate Gallery a few years ago and these editions feel just as nice and premium, perfect for showcasing McKee’s brilliant artwork and designs. David McKee (1935 - 2022) was the creator of well-known characters including King Rollo, Mr Benn and Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, which is now published in more than 60 languages and has its own successful global merchandise programme. Die von mir verwendeten Erhaltungsstufen (für die Platte) folgen den internationalen Normen und Abkürzungen.Unlike certain other famous authors of the period, there is no need to edit or redact these tales for the modern audience! McKee's original artwork brings the glories of a golden age of children's book illustration and story-telling to a new generation.

It is a much larger book than I expected, with huge pictures which look exactly the same as the TV series, only with some words too. Mr Benn helps King Neptune and his mermaid friend outwit the crews of two submarines, who are out to find and photograph the King's pet sea monster. This book is in good condition - bumping to corners of boards; some spotting, particularly on ffep and rfep. Mr Benn has an idea to let out some of the gas, diverting it horizontally with the drain pipe to provide a form of jet propulsion.p>Read about how we'll protect and use your data in our Privacy Notice. In this story, a red suit of armour catches Mr Benn's eye, and when he tries it on he finds himself transported to a land full of castles, dungeons and dragons! Originally four different designs, the 2017 Westminster Attack caused the decision to not produce the final image of Mr Benn facing his adversaries outside the Houses of Parliament and next to the bridge in question. Mr Benn puts on a spacesuit and jets off to different amazing planets – one with jewels, one with no colour and one brightly coloured planet where everyone has to wear a hat! David McKee is the author and illustrator of over 100 children's books and the creator of several memorable characters besides Mr Benn, including Elmer the Patchwork Elephant and King Rollo.
