Greens showcase plenty of beauty, saturation and pop while most of the film has a less flashy palette, it does look bold and full. Starring Colin Farrell and Brendon Gleeson, it’s a film set on the island of Inisherin back in the 1920s, and is a sombre, often very funny drama. Like other movies of this, uh…genre, I will have to say that the accents do make it pretty difficult to understand. to finish, with only some minimal quibbles some may have with regard to shadow detail and passing crush in a couple of very dark nighttime scenes.

The Banshees of Inisherin comes to Blu-ray Disc from 20th Century Studios/Disney Home Media Distribution featuring 1080p AVC encoded video and lossless DTS-HD 5. McDonagh has written a handful of very successful stage plays over the years and it's tough not to feel like The Banshees of Inisherin would work better in an intimate live venue, despite its palpable cinematic beauty. Gleeson’s imposing cruelty of word and action at the start of the film is shaped and moved by action and reaction, offering layers of emotion and awareness that give way to us better understanding him, feeling for him in a different way than we feel for Pádraic, but more endeared than aghast as the film progresses.

But I have to hand it to Martin McDonagh – he’s managed to carve out a nice little niche for himself and has gotten more than a few accolades along the way. Stuck on a barren island and cut off from civilization due to the war, Colm, Pádraic, Siobhán, and their fellow residents must face up to their dead-end lives from which there is seemingly no escape. Through that Farrell captures with rawness the confusion of a man with limited intellectual means struggling with the pain and embarrassment of rejection.

A few years back, this friend reappeared, apologized and indicated an interest in a renewed relationship. The Banshees of Inisherin is an understatedly humorous, profoundly sad tale of the most unexpected kind. Colm is just a sad horrible person deluded that anything he does in the twilight of his life matters.
