Description

This funny, beautifully illustrated story will have you talking about the importance of ‘being good for goodness’ sake.'” The art by Bernatene works so well here. It has plenty of zing and pop with its bold colors and modern feel. One just has to look at the cover to know this is not your normal holiday book. The illustrations were done digitally, adding to the modern feel, but they are also made warmer by brushstrokes showing on the images. In 1949, he began a seven-year run on one of TV’s earliest series, Mama, playing one of the sons of a Norwegian-American family in early 1900s San Francisco.

The Santa Trap was a pet project for me and I was very particular about how the story was published which is one of the reasons it took five years to go from conception to publication. Sebastian Cater has been Head of UK Theatre and Workforce Development since January 2020. He has over 20 years of experience in the UK commercial and not-for-profit cultural sector, and prior to working at UK Theatre he was a consultant specialising in marketing communications and business development strategy. He was Director of Marketing and Sales at Sadler’s Wells for over five years.A hilarious adventure. The stylised illustrations complement the story brilliantly, creating a wonderful darkly funny atmosphere.”

I received a free copy of this book from Peachtree Publishers for review. I was in no way compensated for this review. It is my own opinion. Rosie Kay (BA Hons) FRSA, MCR St Cross College, Oxford, born in Scotland, trained at London Contemporary Dance School, danced in Poland, France, Germany and the USA. Rosie Kay Dance Company was set up in Birmingham in 2004. Rosie is currently working on a new solo show, Absolute Solo II, and a contemporary interpretation of Romeo+ Juliet.

The digital mixed-medai illustrations complement Emmett's witty humor. Bernadette's impeccable skill using dark colors and shadows enhance the sinister actions of a ghastly little boy. Not a nice and fuzzy Christmas book, but destined to become a holiday favorite for those who can't resist a little naughty.I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, The Santa Trap as a well-crafted picture book to be enjoyed by parents as much as children. LOVED IT! Hilarious. The character designs reminded me of a classic stop-motion movie. The illustrations played out as if they were on camera, and were rich and humorous. I loved the multi-paneled spreads that reminded me of comic books. Following another disappointing Christmas morning Bradley decides that enough is enough, and that he is going to set a trap for Santa, a trap that will take all year to create. And so, through Poly Bernatene's wonderfully dark illustrations we see him construct the ultimate scenario, including tigers, guillotines, explosives and trap doors. Come the following Christmas Eve Bradley then sits alone, waiting for his prey to arrive (his parents, by the way, have taken themselves off to a hotel, as their home is now far too dangerous to be living in). He sits and waits, and waits and sits, until......... Bradley Bartleby is a very spoiled and self-centered little boy. He makes demands and expects those demands to be obeyed. He has even dared to make demands of Santa Claus. He demands Santa to bring him every item he has on his long list. As well as writing picture books such as Bringing Down the Moon, Someone Bigger, Pigs Might Fly and Ruby Flew Too, Jonathan also writes and paper-engineers pop-up books. His books have won several awards including the Red House Children’s Book Award “Book for Younger Children” for Pigs Might Fly and the Kiekeboekprijs for Bringing Down the Moon.
