The gauges may be digital, analog, or a combination of both. The displayed information aids the rider in driving the vehicle safely and within legal limits.

The other end of the engine management relay coul is grounded so ECU is powered wnenever ignition and kill are conducting.

To recalibrate the ECU, one should take a nice long ride to get everything up to temp and upon returning home, do not shut it off, but let it idle for 10-15 minutes whiteout touching the throttle or anything else, by this time the cooling fan should be running all the time or most of the time ( unless it is cool outside), doing this will allow the ECU to recalibrate to the best settings for the current condition. I'd guess that anytime you have a drastic change in altitude or climate this would be a recommended procedure to get the best performance form the engine. LIGHTS ON: Turns on the headlights and instrument cluster. Return to this position after starting the ATV to turn the main headlights on.

Until you activate the fuel pump relay switch, no fuel can make it through the lines to the engine. Without fuel, it’s impossible for the motor to start. Interestingly enough, the engine will still crank, but there’s not going to be any gas to get it turned over. So, if a thief gets into your car, they will simply believe that there’s something wrong with your car and they will move on. When the switch is OFF, the engine will not run. Use this switch to turn off the engine in an emergency. Momentary High Beam Switch For active or high-speed riding, it’s good practice always to leave one or two fingers resting on the brake lever to reduce reaction time and stopping distance. The other fingers should maintain the grip around the handlebars at all times. Foot Brake Press the brake pedal down with your foot to apply the brakes. It is much easier to install a switch that kills the specific fuses you choose. You run the switch to the appropriate fuses and place it in an inconspicuous location. Kill Switch Cost If you’re curious why ATVs come with a thumb throttle instead of a twist throttle, you’ll find the answer in this post. Hand and Foot Brake Put the gearbox in Neutral. Make sure you have the engine stop switch in RUN position and the ignition key switched ON.

When you start your lawn mower or small engine, you turn the flywheel and its magnets pass the coil (or armature). This creates a spark. The ignition system coordinates the timing so that the spark will ignite the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber just as it reaches maximum compression in each engine cycle- thus, maximizing the engine’s power. Note that some ATVs require that the gear shifter is in PARK and that the hand brake lever is compressed for the bike to start. The switch type and layout vary between different ATV brands and models. Engine Stop Switch – Also Known as “Kill Switch” Please continue reading to learn more about how each control mechanism works and what it does. Throttle Lever Press the throttle lever to increase engine speed and vehicle movement. Release the throttle lever to reduce engine speed and vehicle movement.

Make sure the label on the unit is “iQSE”. If you see “QSE” you have the first generation module and it’s not compatible with iOS devices. Gear shifting controls on Automatic ATVs: ATVs with automatic transmissionstypically have a hand lever to switch between the available gear ranges: Pressing and holding this switch will activate the headlight high beam. The light will return to the low-beam position after the button is released. This feature can be used to signal other drivers. Mode Switch This switch is installed on the battery, just like the wired version. With the use of magnets, the switch allows the use of the battery when you want to drive, and turns it off when you are protecting your car. However, you are going to run into the same memory issues that were found with the last battery option. Move the switch to the left to activate the left turn signals. Move the switch to the right to activate the right turn signals. 4×4 Switch Many modern 4X4 ATVs have an electronic switch to select between 2-wheel drive (2X4) and 4-wheel drive (4X4), along with other transmission modes specific to the model.

Breaker point systems: used on engines made before 1980, these systems use a mechanical switch instead of a transistor to close the electrical circuit used to produce a spark. The mode switch allows you to toggle through your speedometer’s various display modes and functions. These features vary between different ATV brands and models but may include a trip counter, battery voltage, engine rev counter, and odometer. Reverse Override Switch Depending on what type of transmission your ATV has, it will have either a switch, a hand lever, or a foot pedal to shift between gears.

PARKING LIGHTS ON: After starting the ATV, the switch will return to this position where only the parking lights and taillights are on. Turning the switch to the OFF position removes all power from the vehicle. This feature may come in handy to reduce the risk of the battery draining when the ATV sits for long periods. ATVs come with a thumb-operated throttle lever that works like a car’s gas pedal or the twist throttle on a motorcycle.
