George Frandsen (USA) has the largest collection of coprolites in the world. Don’t worry, they don’t smell any more! 😝

One predictable part giving children the opportunity to join in and shout POOP as loud as they can, which is just hilarious when reading it in school. This third book in the series is the first one which I've read, and it won't be my last. As much as I hate to generalise, this is the kind of book boys would love to read, since poop features in it in a good way (of sorts). I love the cute round style illustration with bright colours and lots of action from both the text and the pictures. Steve Smallman has taken up writing his own stories after illustrating children's books for over 30 years. He also teaches illustration and mural-painting workshops in schools. When he's not working, Steve enjoys films, television, gardening, and walking in the countryside. We can see that they crushed and swallowed lots of bones whilst eating smaller dinosaurs. It seems they enjoyed eating every part of their prey. 🦴️😋There are exceptions to this rule though. For example, marine creatures that eat sediment from the bottom of the ocean floor would have food particles in their droppings and appear granular even if they were actually coprolites. Because crocodiles haven’t changed much over millions of years, scientists can use the same method when fossilized poops are discovered. There was only one craft we could do with this wonderful book – make dinosaur poo playdough! I wanted to use a playdough recipe I’ve made before but I’d ran out of Cream of Tartar so used a slightly different recipe: In this third installment of the hilarious books featuring zookeeper Bob McGrew and his zoo animals, the group travels along with Hector Gloop, the famous poop collector, to an island in search of a sample of elusive dinosaur poop. Will they find it?

I placed the dinosaur poo playdough on the table along with a mixture of colourful pom poms, sequins, pipe cleaners and gingerbread people and left it out as an invitation to play for my children when they got home from school. I put all the ingredients into a saucepan and gently heated the concoction until it started to look like playdough. I removed it from the heat and let it cool down before lightly kneading it and adding some mixed spice. This gave it a slightly darker colour and also a lovely smell. How does poop become a fossil? When the conditions are just right, it happens just like any other fossilization process. The process is very similar to how petrified wood is made.

The first coprolites were discovered by Mary A nning in the early 1800’s who theorized that the strange “poop shaped” fossils she found were actually the fossilized poop of dinosaurs…the ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurus. Some coprolites have some crazy stuff found inside of them such as fish scales, plant material, bones and teeth! It’s neat that we can see these things inside an animal’s poop that lived millions of years ago. In the picture is a coprolite that shows evidence of insect burrowing. That means insects dug holes and tunnels in the poop and lived there! 🐜 Just like modern day animals, some prehistoric animals ingested stones for ballast or digestive purposes. These are known as gastroliths which can also be found in coprolites. If present, they generally have a smooth surface. Looking Under A Microscope I received a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review on my blog Nayu's Reading Corner http://nayusreadingcorner.blogspot.co... The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet and The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas are firm favourites here, so this latest instalment had a lot to live up to. It's another brilliant read- children will love it and adults will be grossed out by it. But when you've finished you'll have a smile on your face, whatever your age.Burrowing causes the poop to break down and create nutrients for the soil. These nutrients help other plants grow faster. 🌱🌿
