Description

The TerraFlex is a heavier, more solidly constructed shoe, with heavier mesh and a higher content of non-mesh components. One would assume this would make for a more durable shoe - but to be fair, I haven’t subjected the TerraFlex to the same amount of miles as the Mesa Trails. Many trail running shoes feature zero (neutral) or minimal drop between the heel and the toe, which encourages a natural running style instead of high-impact heel striking stride, but still have a little bit of a midsole. What you gain here is a little bit of cushioning, and what you loose is some trail or ground ‘feel’. A word of warning Its overall appearance actually reminds me of the Xero Shoes HFS which is also another model that I would classify as a “hybrid” in respect to how you can wear and use it on a daily basis. Xero Shoes Mesa Trail Cons

The Xero Shoes Mesa Trail is a minimalist shoe with a secure lacing system and the chops to last for 500+ miles (805+ km). Performance Analysis The best part of Xero Shoes is the FeelTrue rubber outsoles and the traction they provide. Their proprietary compound and design offer a no-frills and consistent ride. My testing occurred in the Lake Tahoe area of the Sierra Nevada, at altitudes ranging from 6,500 ft to 10,000 ft (1,981 m to 3,048 m). If your feet are low in volume or not too wide, you should look at other brands. While Xero shoes aren’t the widest on the market, they are pretty voluminous and broader than other brands, such as Vivobarefoot. Ultimately, your personal preferences and the types of activities you enjoy will determine which shoe is the best choice for you. Will you go for the flexible and versatile Prio, or will you opt for the rugged and trail-ready Mesa Trail II? 🤔The upper is breathable and perfect for the summer months. The material covering the toe box and in between the overlays is a very thin mesh allowing your foot to breathe on those hot, sweaty days. It also presents the added bonus of being able to dry out if you have any water crossing during your run. The one situation I’d say they might not work is in the muddy wet hills of the UK in the winter. You’ll end up with very wet, cold feet, but there’s not much in the barefoot world that solves that issue.

These shoes are super lightweight at only 8.5oz (240g) in a Mens 9.5 US. Less weight on the feet means a smoother airy running feeling, helping add to the true barefoot style. Lastly, let's touch upon style and aesthetics. While this is a personal preference, both models have a sporty and functional look that can easily transition from the trails to casual wear. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Mesa Trail II, on the other hand, uses a 3.5mm TrailFoam™ layer to even out the bumps on the trail and provide additional comfort without sacrificing that barefoot feel. When it comes to the return policy, we've already mentioned that both the Prio and the Mesa Trail II offer a solid warranty from Xero Shoes. Both models come with a 5,000-mile sole warranty, which gives customers peace of mind about the durability of the shoes. While the rubber may not be as grippy as Megagrip or downright hard wearing as the TC5+ offered by Vibram, it is an excellent balance between traction and durability. The TerraFlex is twenty dollars cheaper. The Mesa Trail is a new product, while the TerraFlex was updated in the last two years. With all the marketing and technology going around the shoe industry, the value of a sturdy and dependable trail shoe can be hard to define. And, then came the Trail Mesa from Xero Shoes.
