JVC Fire TV Edition review: An affordable 4K HDR Alexa TV

This partially depends on personal preference, but as a rule of thumb the optimal viewing distance is about 3x the diagonal screen size of the television. For a television of 60 inch (152cm) the optimal viewing distance would be 180 inch or about 4.5 meter. The TV comes in three sizes – 40in, 49in and 55in – and all three have support for the HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats. That means you should be able to enjoy streaming HDR content from any of the main providers, with the added bonus that you’ll get the best results on any streaming service with Dolby Vision support, which currently includes Disney+ and Netflix. One place the JVC does trip up is in its latency. Even in its built-in Game mode, the TV displays a lag of 42ms. The result was even worse than the 33.8ms achieved by the Hisense A7100, which doesn’t have a game mode at all. Picture quality HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI is a connection to send high quality video and audio from one device to another. Upscaling is somewhat disappointing. While the image is sharp, colours appear washed out compared with the TV’s handling of native 4K content. The LT-55CF890 features the old Fire TV interface and not the all-new Fire TV experience available on some of its streamers. It’s large and straightforward to navigate with tabs for the home screen, live TV, your videos, movies, TV, apps and settings.

The 4K display supports Dolby Vision and HLG HDR formats, and the speakers take advantage of both DTS HD and DTS Virtual X audio. But, how does it perform? Design Turn off the television and wipe dust and dirt off the screen with a microfiber cloth. Do not use paper, this can cause scratches. Do not apply too much pressure or you might cause damage to pixels. Use a specialized detergent or make one by mixing 1 part vinegar with 1 part water. Moisten the cloth with the detergent and clean the screen. Make sure the cloth is not too wet. Remove stains by making rotating movements. Dry the screen with a second microfiber cloth to prevent stripes. To be honest though - if you're concerned about things like processor speed and RAM, then you should really be avoiding JVC altogether. JVC TVs are made by Vestel and pretty-much exclusively for Currys. Spending a decent amount of money on a Vestel TV with only a 1 year warranty may not end up being a good move. LG, Samsung, Philips (etc) all make 65" TVs in a similar price range that will most likely be a better bet than JVC, plus will usually come with a 5 or 6 year warranty if you buy them elsewhere. However, it is unusual that it will work on all models of that brand. Universal remote controls are more suited to do this.

Like JVC TVs, many of the cheaper Panasonic LCDs are also made by Vestel, however the 6-year warranty and (potentially) better support by Panasonic themselves would make the Panasonic/Richer Sounds combination a far better bet than JVC/Currys with a 1 year warranty, IMO. It’s a shame, then, that Dolby Vision content in the Disney+ app suffered from some horrible juddering during our testing. Netflix was seemingly unaffected but watching content via Disney’s streaming service was blighted with hitches and jerks throughout. Once you notice it, it’s very distracting. Hopefully this is something which can be ironed out with a future software update. Both techniques use an LCD screen that emits no light by itself. The difference is in the lighting behind the screen. With LCD screens this is done by CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamp) and LED makes use of LED lights. The biggest issues with the JVC, however, are that it struggles with both motion and upscaling – two key performance elements of any self-respecting 4K TV. I didn’t expect much given the 60Hz refresh rate, but the panel’s slow response time is painfully obvious. It’s not too noticeable in brighter scenes, but detail and colours are smudged by horrible blur in darker moments. Similarly, while images look crisp in 4K when the camera is moving slowly, fast action and sports shows up the panel’s limitations, with detail becoming flattened and indistinct. As the JVC employs a VA-type LCD panel, it has a familiar set of pros and cons. Viewed head-on, it supplies a surprisingly vivid, high-contrast image. Move even slightly away from head-on, however, and the contrast and colours fade away rapidly; the viewing angles are narrow at best. As a result, wall-mounting it above eye-level is a no-no, and you’ll want to be seated directly in front wherever possible, which may be awkward in many living rooms.Home > Audio, TV & Photo > LED Televisions > JVC LED Televisions > JVC LT-58CA810 LED Television Manual JVC LT-58CA810 LED Television The presence of Dolby Vision is particularly good news for a budget model. ‘Dynamic’ HDR formats such as Dolby Vision are capable of adapting to the limitations of low-end 4K TVs, whereas ‘static’ HDR formats such as HLG and HDR10 rely more heavily on a TV’s natural talents. At this price, those talents are routinely in short supply. JVC Fire TV Edition review: Key specifications To connect your universal remote control, you need the model number and brand name of both the remote control and the television. There is a list of codes for brands and model numbers in the manual of the remote control . In general you can connect a device like a blu-ray player or game console to any HDMI port. The device can then be used by selecting the corresponding HDMI channel on your television. Those colours aren’t as intense as they should be in HDR mode, though, so don’t expect the kind of eye-popping colour which you get from pricier sets – the JVC covers a mere 70% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, which is far less than even many mid-range TVs. By the same metric, even LG’s affordable UM7400 managed to cover 82% of DCI-P3.
