The remake features some new characters, including Sofia the Seagull, Fabiana, and her puppet Sabina. In the original movie, Jiminy first visits Geppetto's workshop and Geppetto is not seen anywhere when he first drops in because he immediately makes himself at home looking around and spots Pinocchio sitting on the shelf just until Geppetto comes downstairs to work on him and finish him up. But in this remake, Geppetto is already seen working on Pinocchio even when Jiminy first drops in.
