It’s also no secret that with great love comes great loss. Quite a few novels about dogs will make you cry. A man and a dog on a road trip—a classic setup in fiction and non-fiction. In the hands of Paul Auster, an author known for his highly literate and unconventional fiction, the quest undertaken by Mr. Bones and his human is both funny and tragic. Mr. Bones is a compelling narrator of what a reader describes as “a charming novel by an unpredictable author.” Bulgakov also wrote one of the strangest books about cats, and find another one of his novels, The White Guard, on our Ukrainian books reading list.

There are many wonderful children’s books that are great for dog lovers of all ages — you’re never too old for a classic! Lastly, I see you seem to prefer Fiction over non-fiction. Have you considered splitting your list into two or more groups? As noted, human emotions and thoughts are not attributed to Niki. She is not a heroine, just a dog. That’s after accidentally being left 400 miles behind her family.

Top 5 Books Featuring Dogs

A movie version of author John Grogan’s autobiographical story was made in 2008 starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anniston, and that (understandably) is one of the best movies about dogs! The Philosopher and the Wolf. I know I said this above, but this is my favorite by far. I don’t think this book is for everyone though. It’s laden with philosophy and discusses the life and loss of the wolf owned by Mark Rowlands. If you’re a voracious reader like I am, you’re probably always on the prowl for the next great new book to dive into. Here’s a list of my favorite dog books from the past few years. “Biloxi” A Dog Novel

This is a terrific primer on dog psychology and every dog owner should read it whether they are planning on training their dog or not.White Fang is one of the most famous dogs in fiction and is almost synonymous with books about dogs.
