Description

Great book about the modern, practical aspects of feng shui and how you can use it as guidelines to make a home feel more like home. I found this author on TikTok and his videos were so helpful in explaining why some rooms feel cramped/uncomfortable - this book is a great reference!

His story of turning a cramped trapezoidal apartment into a livable space using the basic principles of Feng Shui is honestly the charm of his channel and what got me hooked on it. While I think this book was so helpful that I will likely get the physical book from the library to go over certain aspects again and maybe take some notes, the parts where he talked about where to place toilets and other things that would have to happen in the building stage of a house or in an expensive, extensive remodel are not so much relevant to me. In Feng Shui Modern, Cliff explains the concepts of feng shui and then uses expert tips and practical diagrams to show - room by room - how our own styles, colour palettes and furniture can be used to maximise any environment. If you have a long corridor, there can be too much aggressive chi, so absorbers like hanging pendant lights will soften it, and a mirror on the side wall will create a sense of width.I learned a lot in this little hardback and will be referring back to it often as I arrange and decorate my apartment! i'd def recommend reading this is you're like me and want good advice on how to make your home look and feel good! In Feng Shui for Modern Living, TikTok influencer Cliff Tan answers these questions and more, explaining the ancient practice of feng shui and how it can be translated to modern homes. If you think of your home as a map, how can you ever feel like you belong if you can get lost in it? Definitely gave me some perspective on how to move my bedroom around (and the ambiance is totally different!

Tan explains the reasoning behind core feng shui principles and encourages the reader to adapt based on what feels best individually. I remember I used to obsess about the “baguas” of my home and think I needed to paint certain rooms certain colors to improve my life.Cliff has become an internet sensation with his videos demonstrating the principles of feng shui from chi (energy) to the command position - and he has put his wisdom into a book for the first time. If you send a child to a good school, does it guarantee they will get a good job and become respected and rich? With more of us working from home, at least some of the time, it’s crucial to have somewhere to do it efficiently.

If the sofa has to ‘float’ (rather than be against a wall), a low console table behind it offers rear protection. Every year we publish a selection of books and pamphlets that address the key issues facing activists and trade unionists. Menopausing will also celebrate the sharing of stories, enabling women to feel less alone and more understood, and talk openly and positively about menopause.

If it’s a side door backing onto an alley, decorate it with plants either side, or create a path signifying the entrance. Halls are the perfect place to hang religious artefacts, should you like them, to remind you of your guide as soon as you come home. Opt for solid wood to symbolise security (not glass which represents fragility) and doors should open inwards to encourage in the flow of chi (energy). I changed the layout in my own east-facing kitchen to open plan, and took out the eye-level cabinets for a more spacious feel.

Living rooms are where families gather, visitors are welcomed and there’s the most life and energy, so go to town with plants, art and mirrors (making sure they reflect lovely things, not doorways – you don’t want to be startled by your own reflection on entering). A round glass coffee table reflects the light and the views, and plants placed close to the window energise the interior. Tan very much eschews the more ~~woo~~ side of Feng Shui in this book - he doesn't necessarily dismiss the astrological aspects of it, but does consider personal introspection to be a better tool for finding your decorating tastes than calculations from your birth date. Over the course of her first year, she is welcomed into the rhythms and routines that characterise life at the edge of the world. But then I read the intro to this book and realized Modern Feng Shui is about feeling good in the space you’re in and making the most of what you have.THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question, 'Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?
