I was imagining what it would be like if this was real, if you had 100 children with special powers and the government had cloistered them away. With Lexicon and Idlewild, I feel like I've been reading loads of these lately, yet I have strangely forgotten to grow tired of them.

So Dax, our protagonist, finds out one day that, under a certain amount of stress, he is able to transform into a fox. I decided to start a new series but to base it on characters who had been linked to Dax Jones, the main character in The Shapeshifter. The idea of a child suddenly discovering they can shape shift and become a fox is such an intriguing way to begin the story. Je kan me niet wijsmaken dat de schrijver geen inspiratie heeft opgedaan bij de Harry Potter boeken. It doesn't matter that it's a book for preteens or early teens, I enjoyed it just the same, similarly, I expect, to how I would've enjoyed Harry Potter if I read it for the first time at 26. Well the children were caught up in her presentation from the start and even some of the staff joined in without too much reluctance! The books follow a teenage boy named Dax on his journey as he leaves his school and the family he loves/hates, and becomes a pupil at a new school for 'special' children.

As an animal lover I absolutely adored this book, I have read and read this book over 20 times and it never gets old! Their background is fleetingly referred to in Mind Over Matter; Gideon has a long lost twin brother, Luke, who lived near the Isle of Wight, so that is why the book is set there. Unlike the other students at the special government school Dax attends, Lisa doesn't want to be there because she had a good life back home, doesn't interact much with the other students, and doesn't go to classes that will help her develop her psychic powers, which consist of being bombarded by messages from the dead and no matter how hard she tries, she can't fully escape them on her own.So this was one of my favourite series when I was like 11 years old and I really needed a comforting pick-me-up book, especially as I felt like I was going into a slump. In case you didn’t know, after The Shapeshifter came it’s sequel series Unleashed, and that’s certainly not to say that the characters aren’t great there though. Being a children's book the story is rather simple, with an obvious villain, but it contains many fun elements. I then went on to read the rest of the series, which weren’t as good as the first book, but still great. There's a World of books to choose from such as: Children's Books, Range includes Baby Books (0-3), Books for Toddlers (3-5), Early Readers (5-7), Childrens Story books (7-11), Young Teens (11-14), Young Adults (14-16) and Childrens Educational Books.

where telekinetics, telepaths, healers, illusionists, clairvoyants and other kids with special gifts are attending school in "peace". The series follows the life of a boy named Dax Jones and is primarily set in England, firstly in the Cornwall area and later in the Lake District.

It’s not good or bad, it’s just nostalgia for the type books I read when I was younger and the few that delved into darker subjects than many chose to. The stories are ideal for older children, but adult readers who enjoy Alan Garner and the like, (as I do), will also find these an entertaining read.
