This recipe uses fresh strawberries to make a simple 3-ingredient strawberry syrup (fresh strawberries, sugar, and water), which is then mixed with your favorite milk. It’s very easy and takes just 10 to 15 minutes to make. I’ve covered the syrup recipe in detail in my blog post Strawberry Simple Syrup, but I’ll give you a summary here too. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain syrup into a small bowl or cup. Discard strawberries. Mix 3 tablespoons or about 2/3 of the syrup into your very cold milk. Stir and then add more syrup to taste. Add food coloring if desired.

Unlike my (crazy popular) Chocolate Milk for One, which makes exactly one cup of milk, this recipe makes a little over two cups of strawberry milk, enough for one big glass or two smaller cups. Fresh strawberries – for the most fragrant flavour, fresh strawberries are a must. Preferably, use them in summer when they are in season for the best taste. You can also use frozen strawberries, but they need to be thawed and drained of excess liquid. And since I figure that I’m probably not the only one with an overabundance of strawberries right about now, I thought that I’d share something to make with some of those extras: Serve immediately: Boba should always be served within maximum 2 hours, before it goes tough. For the best texture, make sure you serve this drink as soon as you’ve assembled it. This strawberry milk ends up a lovely pale pink, but if making for kids (or childlike adults), feel free to add a couple drops of red food coloring for a more vibrant pink color. I used two drops for the milk you see in the photos. For a vegan alternative, use almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, soy milk, or cashew milk instead of dairy milk.

For bright red colors, use fresh strawberries to make the syrup. If you can’t find fresh, frozen strawberries will work too. Strawberry milk tea (also known as strawberry bubble tea or strawberry boba) is a type of milk tea made with strawberries. Most bubble tea shops prepare this type of boba using powders or commercial strawberry milk, which can have an artificial flavour. Also, it rarely contains actual tea. I found this to be a really pleasant taste, quite to my liking... as much as I can like a berry flavoured drink, and more than acceptable to slip into a glass of chilled milk on a warm day, ready to pop outside and soak up a few rays. I can also see it going well on cold night with a glass of warm milk, to mask that strange 'organic' taste warm milk gets, which I personally fiond quite unpleasant normally. Though, considering the beads dissolve faster in warm milk, you may need to slurp faster to get the best results. Granulated sugar: to make a sweet syrup. Don’t use brown sugar, as it could give the syrup a molasses-y type texture. However, this drink can be made healthier by simply reducing the amount of syrup added. You can also skip the cream and use skimmed milk or unsweetened almond milk to reduce calories. What does it taste like? Faith Durand’s strawberry milkshake: ‘It’s an occasional indulgence, and therefore it needs to indulge.’ Thumbnails by Felicity Cloake. The fruit Don’t make it too sweet: An overly sweet drink will take away from the amazing flavour of the strawberries. Only use 1-2 tablespoons of syrup for optimal sweetness.

Thankfully when I did finally decide to buy them it was when they were on special. And we werent even home five minutes when they kids were begging to try them out. So its a simple straw with these strawberry flavoured balls in the middle. You pour a glass of standard milk and drink it through the straw, the process of milk going through these balls releases the strawberry flavour, and walaaa strawberry flavoured milk. And if you went extra crazy at the farmers market and have way, way too many strawberries, stay tuned, I’ll be sharing a larger version of this recipe in the next few weeks.

Hey, it’s strawberry season! My very favorite fruit season (except for maybe sweet cherry season), and the time when strawberries are so good and SO cheap (at least here in California) that I *always* end up buying way too many. Nobody knows exactly where and when strawberry milk was invented, but it’s believed that the idea first came by rinsing berries in milk. According to the Britain Natural History Museum, milk with different flavors was first thought of by an Irish man named Sir Hans Sloane. Ways to Make Strawberry Milk Boba pearls - Separately, cook the tapioca pearls. Once cooked, toss them in the hot strawberry syrup to make them sweet. If you made the syrup in advance, simply heat it up in a saucepan for a few minutes or microwave. And if you think you don’t love strawberry milk, maybe you just don’t like the stuff that comes powdered in a can or lukewarm on lunch trays. This recipe is made with real, fresh strawberries that are cooked into a delicious strawberry simple syrup. This syrup forms the base of the milk tea, giving it a vibrant and authentic flavour. The boba tea can be made with or without tapioca pearls, although I do strongly recommend using them.
